Rutgers pulls out all the tricks to top South Florida

The number two ranking for the South Florida Bulls did not last very long. Neither did the South Florida Bulls undefeated season. After watching the game in Atlantic City, NJ with a ton of Rutgers fans, it was a tough game to watch. The fake punt, the fake field goal, the touchdown that was taken away, and the pass interference call at the end of the game.

But looking back that is not what was the most disappointing part of the game. The most disappointing part was that we did not deserve to win. Rutgers wanted it more. Their players, their coaching staff, even their fans.
Maybe we could have won the game, but the truth is preparation beat talent.

South Florida plays the way they are capable of they win easy. They didn’t. A. Jackson dropped passes, Ben Williams dropped passes, Grothe held the ball too long, we never established the run, and the play calling was bad. I couldn’t believe we didn’t throw any quick slants or screen passes after watching the pressure from Rutgers.

Maybe the coaches can learn from watching Ray Rice pound the ball and wear down a defense. I would love to see a USF running back to that in a big game. I think the loss of Walter Walker made a difference in the play calling. Grothe was asked to do to a little too much. If it wasn’t for a pass interference call he might have been able to pull it off. Instead, we wait for next week vs. U Conn.

Bulls Stampede the Knights

After a lackluster performance against a well coached Florida Atlantic University team. The University of South Florida Bulls beat up on the Central Florida Knights.

For a game that UCF coach George O’Leary said was big for recruiting, the Knights sure didn’t play like it. After a close twenty five minutes of football, the Bulls scored 10 quick points to end the half and take a 29 to 10 lead.

Matt Grothe looked great running and throwing. He had three touchdown passes dropped in the first half, all of which traveled over 30 yards in the air. It didn’t matter as the Bulls owned the second half. UCF quit shortly into the third quarter. Kevin Smith was held to under 100 yards rushing for the first time all year and the Bulls have now not allowed a 100 yard rusher for 13 straight games.

I don’t know who paid to built a football stadium for UCF but I hope they have some money left over to buy a football team because I sure didn’t see one in the second half.

Nice to see the second string Greg Gregory throw for two touchdown passes and third string senior Anthony Severino throw for a touchdown pass as well. The only concern was the lack of playing time for Jamar Taylor. Hope his ankle is not bothering for Thursday game against Rutgers as he only had 3 carries on the day.

Now we see if the USF Bulls are ready for another tough road game Thursday vs Rutgers.

Video from the scene at Raymond James Stadium will be up shortly.

The Bulls take on a young and improving Central Florida team that has a potent offense and almost upset the U. of Texas Longhorns.

Both teams are coming off of disappointing games as USF held off FAU and UCF had 5 consecutive turnovers in a disappointing loss to UCF.

Keys to the Game Saturday

Bulls

-Must win the turnover battle.

Both teams force a ton of turnovers AND have a ton of turnovers. Who wins this battle should most likely win this game

-Win Time of Possession and keep UCF offense off the field.

They may have the best offense USF has faced this year. Establishing the running game is critical for the Bulls to slow down the Knights. These guys can score

-Shut down Smith backs

Kevin and Phillip Smith are averaging over 5 yards per carry. Stop the run and Selvie and Clebert can go after QB Kyle Israel on 3 and long

-Bulls passing game

Grothe has not done much passing the last two games. Receivers need to hold on to the ball and Gregory needs to have Grothe roll out more and throw on the run as he doesn’t seem comfortable in the pocket.

UCF Keys to the Game

-Get the Smith’s runnning the ball

If Phillip and Kevin Smith get going it could be a long day for the Bulls

-Win turnover battle

If they play like last week they might as well stay home

-Stop Bulls RB’s

With the Bulls struggling to pass they may stuff the line and force USF to beat them in the air

Final Prediction

South Florida is getting no respect at number 5 and UCF is going to be ready to play. With Rutgers the following week USF is ripe for an upset. However, the lack of respect by the media and Coach Leavitt’s riding the team after a bad week vs FAU should have the Bulls motivated to play.

USF 34 - UCF 21

You gotta BULLieve!!!!!
